Parent Involvement
Open lines of communication between the parents and the school, as well as, parents’ involvement in their child’s schooling are important. Parents are encouraged to set up an appointment with the school to discuss any problems or questions.
Three times throughout the year there will be a group meeting with all the parents in which the teacher presents what has been taught in the classroom. An agenda will be sent home prior to each meeting. Individual conferences will be arranged for an in-depth discussion if a student is struggling. Parents may come observe the classroom once arrangements have been made prior to the day when the observation is to occur.
Newsletters will be sent home once a month informing parents of what the students have been doing and what events are coming. Parents may be asked to participate in donating or gathering items pertinent to the current subject area or in volunteering on field trips or special class activities.
Suggestions are always welcome by way of a private conversation in person or on the phone, written note, or e-mail. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated and thoughtfully considered.
Parents’ involvement in their child’s schooling is important both at school and at home. Some ways parents may become involved:
v Be a chaperone for field trips.
v Volunteer to help in the classroom for special events.
v Visit the school whenever you can. Parents may come observe the classroom once arrangements have been made prior to the day when the observation is to occur.
v Tell the teacher what your child likes --special foods, games, and things to talk about.
v Show your child you are happy about all the new things he is learning to do by displaying his artwork or special projects and talking about them at home.
v Attend scheduled parent meetings and conferences.
v Donate or gather items pertinent to the current subject.
v Clean the classroom.
v Help prepare classroom materials for future lessons.
